A member asked:

Is the risk of a dry socket still there until the wisdom tooth hole closes?

Dry socket: Once a clot has formed, the tissue has started to grow. Dry socket typically forms in the first 72 hrs. Gentle cleaning of the mouth is best.

Low risk: Usually the risk is there until about seven days post extraction for a dry socket. Once the gum tissue has started to cover over the area, then there is a greatly diminished risk of losing the clot and developing a dry socket.
