Infected socket: At 5-7 days a "hole"will be seen in your jawbone. It may be deep enough to trap food. When the clot is dislodged or lost, the bone becomes exposed and this is called alveolar osteitis or dry socket. This may be painful and begin on the second to fourth day and last more than 10 days. Bacteria colonizing in the socket can lead to inflammatory changes which can become infected. See Dr. right away.
