Does the doctor need to do to tests to be sure if the diagnosis is a bacterial infection?

Complicated: Sometimes it is obvious from symptoms and physical findings that a patient has bacterial infection. Often, however, it is diagnosed through a variety of tests that include cultures. Cultures are a way to isolate a bacteria and identify it.

Sometimes: Bacterial infections can occur in multiple locations in the body. Some have tests that are easy to do such as a culture of the urine or blood, and some you cannot test for directly. If you are concerned that you have a bacterial infection please see your doctor immediately for evaluation.
