How will having compression fracture affect me down the road?

Should be fine: Most people with a single compression fracture wil be able to function without much difficulty. Some patients a mild back ache but nothing that prevents them from doing most everything. If older people have multiple compression fractures from osteoporosis sometimes that can be debilitating.
