You're a good friend: Sorry to hear of your friend's trouble. Needing a transfusion means she is anemic, but why she is anemic? If she has, say excessive menstrual loss causing anemia, then it is not that serious. Does she have kidney disease or blood cancer/leukemia/lymphoma? Did she have gastric bypass? (roux-en-y procedure reduces iron absorption). So, we need some more info to better answer your concern. Good luck.
