Correct your bite: An underbite is a type of bite problem which is best treated during childhood. The ideal time to begin treatment for an underbite is between ages 7-8 years old. As an adult, your underbite can still be corrected. Your treatment options will depend on the severity of your underbite and could include tooth extractions or possibly jaw surgery.

Depends on cause: Depending on the reason for the underbite, it may be treated with braces alone, or may need both braces and surgery. If the cause is a severe skeletal discrepancy, surgery may be a needed part of your orthodontic treatment.

Varies: Depending on what caused the problem. Treating the problem when young usually makes treatment much easier. Is the lower jaw overdeveloped or the upper jaw under developed? Braces or surgery or a combination of the two is possible.

Depends: So many factors involved: age (growth remaining), genetic predisposition, severity of underbite. At 42, growth is not at issue, but if not too severe (mild skeletal component) orthodontics may be able to correct it by elastic traction, differential angulation, removal of teeth etc. If severe: surgery.

Correct it: If your underbite is because of improperly positioned teeth. If it is because your upper jaw is too small and/or your lower jaw is too big, the orthodontist will team with an oral surgeon to straighten hour teeth to your jaws and then have the jaws reset to match each other. Please see a qualified orthodontic specialist for an evaluation and treatment suggestions.

Fix it: hopefully, using braces likely with some rubber band wear, they will look to correct your underbite. this is difficult without surgery, but not impossible-- we do it all the time

Braces and elastics: while not every underbite can be solved with orthodontics, most/many can. Braces, used in conjunction with elastics to move the lower jaw back with help move the teeth in a manner that will, over time, address your underbite.

Fix it: A qualified Orthodontic Specialist will fully evaluate your malocclusion and will discuss the treatment options that are available to you. Malocclusions are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike, and therefore treatment will be individualized. Braces, and sometimes jaw surgery, may be required. Know that for best results there are no shortcuts.
