Pain,Fever,Jaundice: Cholangitis is an infection in the bile ducts that occurs with blockage of the bile duct, typically due to stones, tumors, or strictures of the ducts. Bacteria rapidly enter the bloodstream from the liver, causing serious infections. Treatment centers on IV antibiotics, aggressive supportive care, and, occasionally, relief of the blockage (typically performed by gastroenterologists via ercp).

Obstructed bile duct: Cholangitis is an infection of the bile duct that connects the liver to the intestine. These are serious infections since the infection can easily spread to the liver and the bloodstream, causing sepsis. This is almost always due to blockage of the bile duct, typically due to a stone or tumor. The combination of pain, fever, and jaundice are the most common symptoms.
