My brother had a stent placed in the cbd 10 years ago and till today he has shown no symptoms of stent blockage. there is also no acute cholangitis. his lfts are normal. does this indicate the stent is fully functional?

I'm not sure from the question, why the CBD stent was placed. In general I would agree that blood testing of Liver function tests, especially Bilirubin levels, is a reasonable way to determine that the stent is functioning as intended. CT scanning, or ultrasound, may help in evaluating the liver bile ducts are not enlarged, and may be useful in visualizing stent.
