Yes: Plastic surgery can be done for scars. Some patients however are prone to "keloid" scars, which may occur often with any type of surgery, so "surgery" for a keloid, may simply result n another keloid. There are however, as stated many excellent plastic surgeons who have helped many people with scar repair surgery.

Of course: Surgery on scars is called revision of scar surgery. Some scars can benefit from being revised and others don't. See your plastic surgeon and let him/her explain if you will have the scar improved from surgery. Good luck from nyc.

Scars: There are many options for scarring such as steroid injections, lasers, dermabrasion, and revision surgery. Seek the consultation of a board certified plastic surgeon.

Improved not removed: Scars can be improved with surgical and non surgical techniques to make them less visible but unfortunately we have no way to remove scars.

Yes, if helpful: Surgery, even when done carefully by an experienced plastic surgeon, always leaves scars. This is why we only operate on mature scars that look much worse than the scar(s) that will result from the revision surgery. The best candidates are usually raised, depressed or wide. If the scar you have is flat and narrow, surgery likely won't make much improvement. Scar massage can help early on!

Scar surgery: Some scars can be improved with plastic surgery but note that scars cannot be eliminated with any modality. Hypertrophic and keloid scars can sometimes be excised and treated with alternative therapies to prevent reoccurrence. Scar positions can be moved so they might be more concealed. It depends on location of scar and what it looks like. You're plastic surgeon will give you the right approach.

Yes: Most plastic surgeons can do scar revision. Everything depends upon the location and nature of the scar. A scar is permanent and cannot be erased, however surgery can improve the scar's appearance. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for an opinion to see if he/she can help.

Scar revisions: Yes, most plastic surgeons offer surgery for scar revisions, although usually not until all conservative (i.e., non-surgical) options are exhausted first. There are exceptions to this, like if a scar is causing functional changes or disability. I recommend consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
