Still not clear.: Minoxidil is a 40-year-old drug first used to treat high blood pressure. Hair growth was a common side-effect. We observe that it shortens the resting phase of hair growth, it increases the length of time hair grows and increases the size of hair follicles. The exact mechanism for these actions is still unknown, and may be caused by changes in the hair follicle or the supporting cells.
