Quitting smoking: Contemplating to quit is a good first step. You need to be motivated. To prepare yourself for that, start working on removing reminders, such as ashtrays, deodorize your home and car, stay away from people who smoke. There is a number of medications that can help. Nicotine replacement, chantix, wellbutrin (bupropion). You may want to talk to your doc about having any of those prescribed.

Quitting smoking.: Cold turkey is the best way, but nicotine or cigarette tapering are viable options as well. For cold turkey, pick a quit day in advance, prepare for it, and go for it. http://www.amazon.com/Thats-Quit-Quitting-Smoking-Forever/dp/0595290469/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416278193&sr=8-1&keywords=giannone+i+quit
