Yes: The new diagnostic manual for psychiatrists the dsm-v acknowledges that panic attacks can accompany several mental illnesses in a way that should be considered simultaneously and can be a specifier for a more severe and complex variety of illness. The reason this is significant is because previously in dsm-iv it was less clear which symptoms were severe mental illness or a separate panic disorder.
