Mania is characterized by inflated self-esteem or grandiosity, decreased need for sleep, pressured speech or talkativeness, racing thoughts, distractibility, increased pursuit of goals, and excessive involvement in foolish activities. Anxiety can also be associated with unusual thoughts or speech.

Dr. Smith has : Already covered the most salient points. Sometimes i can find it difficult as a psychiatrist to differentiate between marked anxiety and hypomania. This is made especially confusing if the individual is a poor historian or there is illicit drug use. Anxiety and mania or hypomania can also co-exist. I point this issues out - to show that sometimes things aren't clear cut. Take care.
