See an orthodontist: Possibly. It depends on the position the canines are in and the relationship of the upper jaw to the lower jaw and the age of the patient. An orthodontist will be able to answer this question for you.

Crowding: Palatal expansion is usually successful in the preteen and teenage years. Beyond that you can't expect much. A better solution may be to have full orthodontic care.

Need more info: Canines can be out of position for many reasons. If upper jaw skeletal lay matches lower jaw, expansion can create rather than solve problems. You need to see a qualified orthodontic specialist for evaluation. Ask your general demtist to refer you to a specialist.

That Depends: Palatal expanders are used when the upper jaw is small compared to the lower jaw. By encouraging growth of the upper jaw they can correct this discrepancy and create more room for the canines. If the two jaws already match in size but the canines are still crowded, then no, a palatal expander will not help. Your orthodontist should be able to guide you further.
