A member asked:

How many extra calories does the atkins diet burn? i know that fat is burned instead of carbs on the atkins diet, but how does that change the amount of calories burned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Less calories: The important thing about the atkins diet is that you eat very little carbohydrate. As a result you eat more fat. For most people, fat is more satisfying in terms of feeling full than carbs. As a result you eat fewer calories overall and lose weight. Also, when fat is burned it produces ketones. These suppress your appetite as well. The amount of calories burned depends on your activity.
