7000 less: To lose 2 pounds a week, you need to eat 1000 calories less a day than you require to maintain normal activities of daily living for your age, weight and height. Many of the programs light weight watchers would consider about 1200 calories a day and not lower than that amount. If you take in too few calories, your body may go into starvation mode and lower your metabolism and prevent further loss.
