Lose slowly: Eliminate 500-1000 calories a day and you will lose 1-2 pounds a week. It may take up to 2 years to lose the weight, but that is the safest and most effective way to do it. If you increase activity and are active most days of the week, that will add to your weight loss.

No: Most current research does not support the idea that specific food avoidance can prevent food allergies in babies. Good luck trying: The balanced diet is an adult idea, & a good one to practice for your lifetime.However it is a bit impractical when you deal with kids. Breast milk is balanced, but get past weaning & you must deal with a kid with his/her own ideas about eating. I like to look on kids from the vantage point of a balanced week rather than meal or day. Before school age their brain directs their cravings & does ok.

Exercise : Adding exercise and self control by reducing portion intake and eating the right foods while counting calories is best. Increase fruit and fiber intake if not eating enough. Take a yoga course or start swimming if not already. Good, low impact exercises. If considering surgical options, know that the best procedures and surgtons usually require that one starts losing weight first.
