Unsure : As it has not been scientifically researched. One would imagine steam could also make the pain worse by irritating the compressed nerve.Consider consulting a neurosurgeon, ent, oral surgeon, dentist, or interventional pain management for more effective treatment options.

Entirely subjective : If it helps you then you can utilize steam without fear of any bad outcome. Another person may use ice and feel some level of relief. As mentioned in another answer the best relief - is permanent relief - which is accomplished surgically by either an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or ent.
