Eagle Syndrome: Hi the only treatment for eagle syndrome is surgical, a styloidectomy. Many patients have an elongated styloid process without having any problems. Once the process elongates and calcifies to about 1 1/4 in problems start. Patients will complain of pain while swallowing and "ringing" within the ears. If the process compresses some blood vessels it can even cause strokes.

Surgery: Elongation of the stylo-hyoid ligament is the cause of eagle's syndrome. It can cause pain in the throat, neck, and compression of the carotid artery. The problems usually occur when you turn your head. The only long treatment is to surgically remove the elongated calcified ligament.
