Get it smoothed: It might after too long a period. Have the dentist that put it on should smooth it. It is quick, requires no anesthesia, and should cost nothing. In the mean time use soft ortho wax at the drug store.

Call: Call the Dentist or Orthodontic Specialist who made your retainer. Make an appointment to have the retainer's fit and finish evaluated. If pain is from your tongue being irritated, rinse with salt water, take Ibuprofen. If pain from fit of the retainer, adjustment may be required.
