Arthritis: Wear and tear is a description of osteo/degenerative arthritis. What is degenerating is the joint cartilage. The specific etiology and natural history will be somewhat different depending on the joint. Generally one of the important"what else" will be modification in use of the joint. Good luck.

See rheumatologist: See rheumatogist and avoid cortisone shots. Instability and specific diagnoses (e.g., calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease) evaluation would be helpful.
