Urine protein: There are dipsticks that will detect protein in your urine. It may be easier, and cheaper, to go to a physician's office (p) and have the p do a urine analysis there to spare you the expense of buying a bottle of dipsticks. If the urine is positive for protein, you can start working up the cause at that time. If negative for protein, you need do nothing. Good luck.

Reagent strips: It is likely that your pharmacy carries dipsticks (reagent test strips) for urinalysis. Bayer's "albustix" won't detect low-levels of proteinuria that might be of interest to a diabetic. My question is why you'd want to do this at home rather than have your physician do it, and how you'll cope with a possible positive result -- you're not going to self-diagnose or treat with a "pop" nostrum, hope.

Urine dipsticks: Yes, you can purchase urine dipsticks at a pharmacy. Your physician can write a prescription if necessary.
