Depends: It would depend on the severity of the injury. If just a contusion or strain then rest and take anti inflammatories. If a lot more severe or subluxed see your doctor ..Especially if unable to control the pain.

Evaluation: When trauma is sustained to the back, it is important to be seen either in the er or with a spine specialist. Most traumatic injuries to the back, are minor, yet quite painful. It is important to get x-rays to rule out fractures in trauma. If there are issues with mobilization or neurologic issues, additional treatments may be necessary.

Depends: If the trauma does not damage nerves or the stability of the spine (as in a severe fracture or dislocation), simple pain relievers, gentle exercise, activity modification may be enough. Heat or cold can help. A physical therapist can coach one on exercises to regain flexibility and strength. Trauma with fracture may require a brace or even surgery. A spinal specialist can judge stability.
