A member asked:

What makes igg subclasses different from each other? is it light chain/heavy chain component of igg that differs for each subclass? i don't get it.

Heavy chain: The heavy chain determines both the isotype (i.e., iga, igm, igg, ige) and subclass of the antibody. The structure of the constant region of the heavy chain is very different between isotypes, leading to different functions. Slight differences in the heavy-chain constant regions among antibodies of the same isotype result in what we call subclasses.
