Depends: Just because it's strep negative doesn't mean that it isn't a bacterial infection. If the pain persists for several days especially with fever, mono testing is negative, lymph glands are swollen then may be nonstrep infection. To verify ask health provider to do aerobic and anaerobic bacterial cultures.
