Diverticulosis: I am assuming that you have had episodes of recurrent infected diverticulitis resultng in a sigmoid colon stricture. Bowel prep @ home to clean the colon before surgery. Can be done small incisions with laparoscopic, or regular open incision surgery. Risks are bleeding, infection, intestine leak. May have limited affect on bowel function, will not stop chronic constipation if that affects you.

Resection.: The surgery for diverticulosis of the colon is to remove said portion of the colon. This is not to be taken lightly. There are specific indications in regards to the number of infections and bleeding episodes before a resection would be indicated. After surgery, normalcy of your bowel functions would depend on how much of your colon needs to be removed.
