Can happen, but: Your lip can feel swollen from the novacaine for awhile and this is normal. If there is an infection you can have swelling and this should be treated with an antibiotic by your dentist or endodontist. Call them if there is swelling or if it is getting worse.

Possible: It is not unusual to feel numbness in your lip after anesthesia and it may last a few hours, if it persist it could be related to an infection if the tooth is close to the swollen area or it could be a result of inadvertently biting your lip while under the effect of the anesthetic. It would be wise in any case to call your dentist and ask his or her opinion..

NO: That is indicative of an infection. See your dentist and make sure he knows about your situation.
