Depends: Many sensory nerves pass through and around the eye. Eye pain can occur from many causes. You need to be concerned if the eye is red, if it hurts to move the eye, if the vision is diminished, or the eye is light sensitive. If the cause is not obvious and the pain persistent, see your ophthalmologist for evaluation.

See your doctor: Too much worry can scare you into inaction. Most eye pain has simple causes such as dry eye and eye strain. Treatment is straightforward and should not be avoided out of fear. A healthy dose of worry is good, if it is enough to get you to see a doctor.
