A member asked:

My 20 month old won't sleep by himself. is the cry it out method safe? and how long will it take until he sleeps without me and dad?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Safe, but: Cry out method is but one way. It does work, but can be very trying to you and dad as a 20 month old can usually outlast the tolerance of even the most steady adult. You can try a gradual withdrawl. A few nights, sleep on the floor next to his bed. Move closer to door each night. In a week, be just outside the door, gradually increasing that distance. Be patient and don't give in and crawl back in.
