Post Injury swelling: When you injured your tibia the energy of the injury was also absorbed by the skin muscle and tissue that surrounds the tibia injuring these structures as well and disrupting their normal state. Swelling is a result of this as these tissues repair themselves. You may experience swelling for as long as 12 to 18 months after injury and in some cases it does not resolve.
