Mom fractured tibia and fibula on right foot. she had surgery recently. we noticed a large swelling on her right, fibula side. left side doesn't. why?

Check with doctor: You don't say how big you mean by "large". It's also important how long it has been since the injury and surgery, if the swelling is sore or red, or if she has any fever. Best to check with the doctor's office ASAP. Everything may be OK, but better safe than sorry!
