A member asked:

Is a pap smear enough to diagnose cervical cancer, or is biopsy necessary?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Pap smear is usually a screening tool that if abnormal prompts one to do a colposcopy with biopsy to definitively diagnose cervical cancer. Although ca in situ can be seen initially with a pap smear.
