Still Open?: There are many reasons why a wound would remain open. Usually, most wounds heal within a week or so but if it has not started to show signs of healing within about 2 or so weeks, we call that chronic. It is unlikely that a family doc would have the experience and training to treat this and so a true wound care specialist is the key. Avoid clinics with part time wound "dabblers".
