Common: It is common for you to have pain with new braces. This typically lasts a day or two. Ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours will control the pain. Follow the instructions give by the orthodontist. Eat soft foods for the next couple of days. If you have questions or concerns you can call the orthodontist and they will help you.

New braces and pain: Having braces placed on your teeth can cause discomfort. Lips get 'chewed' up by the brackets and the teeth are sore from the pressure the braces and wire places on them. Certain foods that are harder to chew may cause pain as well. Take motrin, aleve or tylenol (acetaminophen). For the first few days after any adjustment choose softer, easier to chew foods.
