Be patient!: Eating can be quiet a challenge during the first few painful weeks in braces. Chew slowly and carefully, and cut your food into small pieces. Stick to soft food. Forget the nuts and seeds. Bite with the side of your mouth. It may be virtually impossible to bite into anything with your front teeth for a while. Be gentle: The best thing is Tincture of Time. The soreness will disappear gradually. In the meantime take 1 200mg Advil (ibuprofen) 4x/day with meals, rinse w salt water, dab Orabase-B onto sore spots w Q-tip, cover "stickers" with dental wax. Very important--keep teeth & gums spotlessly clean (brush 2x/day for 2 minutes, & floss daily). Eat a SOFT high-protein diet nothing hard, sticky, or chewy.
