Croup in teens: Croup is certainly more common in young children. Croup describes the barky nature of the cough. If your teen is also having upper respiratory symptoms it is possible that he/she just has inflammation in the throat that make the barky sound when he/she coughs. If there are no other symptoms and the cough lasts more then 2 weeks he/she should be seen by a doctor.

Treat sx,M.D.: There are many conditions which can cause stridor. There are many viruses which may cause the symptoms of croup. The infection is usually accompanied by congestion and fever. He should be able to breathe and swallow without difficulty. Other possibilities include aspiration of a foreign body. It is advisable to monitor for persistent or worsening symptoms, to use a humidifier and to see your M.D.

Mostly children: Most viral croup occurs between 3 months and 6yrs of age. Sometimes childhood croup can occur up to age 12. Adult croup can also occur but usually mild course due to larger airway.
