Croup: Generally speaking, therapy for most cases croup is supportive meaning that the disease (usually a virus) must run its' course. Over-the-counter cough suppressants are not recommened for children. Treatment for cough that may help a child become more comfortable include breathing humidified air or steam from a steam-filled bathroom with supervision. For distressed breathing, seek medical care.
