Depends.: If you are having multiple areas treated, tumescent (local) anesthesia may be too uncomfortable (even with sedation) for optimal surgery and best results. Why even consider not using a proper anesthesia provider and a abps-certified plastic surgeon? Sure, there are derm "surgeons" who tout local anesthesia as safer, but there's a reason most "real" plastic surgeons use anesthesia--it's better!

It can be done: Safely with a tumsecent technique or with general anesthesia given by an md anesthesiologist or crna. Depends on the amount of areas to be done, surgeon preference, your preference and other factors. In my experience, most patients prefer to be asleep, except for very small liposuction cases.

Probably.: Liposuction surgery, depending on the number of areas being treated and other factors such as patient/surgeon preferences can be performed under local/sedation anesthesia or general anesthesia. In my practice, with few exceptions, most patients and i choose to use general anesthesia. The careful selection of plastic surgeon and anesthesia provider, with emphasis on safety and outcome are key.

Talk to surgeon: Depending on where the procedure is being performed the use of sedation may provide enough coverage. I would talk to the plastic surgeon performing the procedure and see what they recommend.

Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia. However, you can discuss with your surgeon if local anesthesia would already be suitable for your needs as it can safely be used depending on your chosen technique.
