Aging: Think about spondylosis as arthritis. It is a degenerative process of an aging spine. As we age the bones of the spine age too.

Bone spurs: As the intervertebral discs get older and fail to support the spinal column, bone spurs form as reinforcements of sorts. Similar to an aging tree adding burs and growing a thicker trunk. Spondylosis is a harmless byproduct of aging, unless the spurs start compressing nerves or spinal cord in which case your neurosurgeon needs to drill them down to create more space for the neural structures.
