HIV causes AIDS...: Hiv (the human immunodeficiency virus) is the cause of aids (the acquired immune deficiency syndrome). The exact origin of this virus is not certain, but it is most likely a zoonosis, an infection spread from animals to people. Most investigators feel that this virus jumped to people from apes in west africa.
