A member asked:

Can i get tetanus from getting earrings even if i had tetanus shot 5 years ago?

No: You have protection from that issue for approximately 10 years from the shot as long as the wound is simple and cleaned after it is incurred.Your piercing could become infected with standard skin germs so attention to local care during healing is important.

Unlikely: To get tetanus from earrings/ piercing would be very unlikely on immunized person and when it is done with clean tools. Tetanus shot or to be exact tdap vaccine should be given every 10 years to prevent not just tetanus but also whooping cough.
