Deaf ear: It is likely that when you coughed you sent secretions up the eustachian tube into your inner ear. The fluid build up in the inner ear prevents the ear drum from vibrating properly causing the altered hearing.

Ear fluid infection: You could have some fluid backed up into the ear behind the ear drum-that will decrease hearing. It sounds like you are getting a cold so you might want to try afrin (oxymetazoline) nosespray as directed for 2-3 days (not longer) in your nose. There is a tube connecting the nose and the inside of the ear which gets swollen or clogged with fluid when you are sick sometimes. If it lasts more than 10 days see an md.

Hearing loss: Could be fluid but need to get a hearing test to make sure it's not a sudden nerve hearing loss that would be treated with high dose steroids. Go get a hearing test.

Hearing prob: Try a saline nasal spray and a decongestant, it may help your hearing. If it continues in more than 3 days see your doctor.
