A member asked:

How often does a blepharoplasy result in loss or dimished hair in the forehead hairline/temples? is there any connection between the two?

It should not: After a lower blepharoplasty you can experience some loss of the lashes if you have an incision in your eyelid. Loss of hair at the hairline or temples is not related.

? Result of stress ?: I have had temporary thinning or loss of hair in a few of my patients after different surgeries --- i always sent them to dermatologists --- in all my patients, the hair grew back with in six to twelve months. You should see a dermatologist.

Rare: There's no direct connection, but as mentioned, sometimes a stress response will result in a hair fall. Try rogaine (minoxidil) in the area until the hair recovers.

Never: A blepharoplasty should only involve surgery around your eyes. There are times when brow lifts are done at the same time as a blepharoplasty. Remember upper eyelid drooping can be a result of both upper lid laxity and forehead laxity . Both can contribute to the appearance and look of this part of your face. If you don't correct both problems then your final result may not meet your desired goal.

Unlikely: Any relationship would be indirect. Blepharoplasty, especially when performed under local anesthesia, is not very stressful on the body. If you had a lot of anxiety around the time of surgery, perhaps it's related. Most likely the two occurring at the same time is coincidental.

Any surgical stress: Any surgical stress may result in hair loss but it is highly unlikely that a blepharoplasty is directly responsible.
