Excellent question: Great question and a topic I have been interested in for years. Any rotational or torsion force applied to the leg will naturally be dissipated by the joints which have this ability. The main joint to accomplish this is the sub talar joint directly below the ankle. If this joint is restricted (along with the ankle) then rotational force moves up the leg to thenext joint....The knee.

No.: There is no evidence to support that. Athletes at all levels brace their ankles, and there is no evidence to suggest that the ACL is at higher risk of injury because of them.
