ACL Tear: Cured no, asymptomatic yes. Therapy including strengthening of your hamstrings may give you a "stable" knee during activities of daily living. If you are still athletically active you may have instability moments during fatigue or certain motions which may put other structures of the knee at risk. Best to discuss all the options with your orthopedic surgeon.

Not for all sports: An acl deficient knee will sometimes heal enough to allow some straight line running activities, but not cutting type sports. The knee also can heal with continued instability though, with 'shifting' episodes during normal activities. A brace at least is recommended for sports. A knee exam by your orthopedist after the knee heals will be helpful in understanding how stable the knee is.
