A member asked:

Have a father with bad acid reflux, very concerning to me now. please help. what can i do for him?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lots of things: Reduce volume; more that's in stomach, the higher the pressure, more reflux. Eat smaller meals, stay upright for at least an hour afterwards. Avoid tomatoes, citrus, chocolate, caffeine, peppermint, alcohol, and fatty foods -- these all make reflux worse. Milk may soothe the esophagus. Make sure he takes a powerful acid blocker (prilosec/prevacid) daily. May be heart problem, see dr.!
