Can abscessed gums form if you have no teeth?

Possible...: ...But not likely. Unless there is tooth root or foreign body introduced into the gums, a gum abscess is unlikely. If there is a swelling of the gums and no tooth or tooth root present, other explanations for the swelling will be investigated.

Rarely: That is unusual, but possible. Most abscesses are tooth related.
