Is it actually true that amoxicillin will work against tooth abscess?

Minimizes spread but: Amoxicillin may or may not work. Don't self prescribe medications. See a dentist for treatment! the most important thing to know is that taking any antibiotic, even if it works, does not cure the problem. It only controls it somewhat and minimizes the chance of the infection spreading. The cause of the problem needs to be eliminated.

Yes: The Amoxicillin will contain the infection and prevent it from worsening. However, see a dentist to effectively treat the tooth and the infection asap.

Yes: Yes it dose but it dose not treat the cause of tooth abscess. Need a dentist to find out what is causing the abscess and fix the problem.
