Should i take amoxicillin for an abscessed tooth?

You can: If you are not allergic to penicillin then Amoxicillin is a good choice. However, that it not the definitive treatment. You still have to have the underlying problem treated.

It works, but: It won't cure the abscess. You really need to see the dentist and get the abscess treated by removing the source of infection, whether by a root canal or removing the tooth, typically.

Antibiotics control spread of infection, but specific dental treatment (root canal or extraction) is required to affect a cure. Please don't take any left-over pills that you may have lying around. See your Dentist for proper examination, diagnosis, and treatment plan. If antibiotics are prescribed, take ALL of the pills, don't quit early no matter how you feel. Call your Dentist.
