Can be endodontic: Or periodontics or both -- different etiology. In any event neither is good - so be seen by your dentist for an exam x-ray and appropriate treatment. Hope this helps.

Can be...: An abscess is a pocket of infection which can originate either at the end of a tooth (root canal-related) or in the gums (periodontal). Prior to any treatment by your dentist, and evaluation can be performed to determine the cause.
